Charlotte Poppadum

Allow me to introduce you to Bill's grand-daughter, his first grandchild, born a week ago today.   She was 57cm (22 inches), 6 lbs 12 oz (3.06 kg).   I don't know what it means to have length announced in metric and weight in imperial, but Bill says that's the longest skinniest baby in the family.

When we last saw Helen and Martin, the dad-to-be was telling us how the baby would be Lottie, then Charley and then as a young professional woman, Charlotte; he has her life planned, including the fact that there will be no boys around before she's 40.  I think he was kidding....

Yes, that's orange hair, just like her mom.

It's also sort of an old custom here that while the mother is still in hospital, the dad goes out and celebrates.  It's his job to register the birth and if he's under the influence the child's name may be other than originally agreed (this is the story behind the fictional character Phryne's name).  He was teasing Helen that Charlotte's middle name was going to be Poppadum.  Just in case you've not had Indian food, you can read about these horribly delicious things here.

I think that's a great middle name, don't you!?

Congratulations on the new grandchild! Charlotte is such a pretty name!
You are correct that cooking destroys the salmonella bacteria. Furthermore, macarons have been around for many years without consumers getting ill, (with the possible exception of overindulging) so I think there is no cause for alarm.

Oh...how wonderful! Congratulations on the new addition. And that IS a long baby for her weight. But always precious!

How fun to have a cute red haired baby! 22 inches is one tall baby - my 6'5" son was only 19" long (funny how they don't call it "tall"). Does she also have long feet and hands?

Tell Bill congrats. Being the father of only sons I've found that Granddaughters are great. I've got five (three actual and two steps), between ages five and nine. Not having much patience with little kids during my life I've surprised everyone at how doting I've become on these little girls.

Shelley and Bill...Charlotte is beautiful. I am so glad that I found time to catch up a bit here and see the pictures. Congratulations all around...it's a great connection to the future.
Hugs...

Carolyn - It is a good name, Charlotte; I think it may even suit her.

Bliss - Turns out the hospital made an error in the recording of her weight - or she's gained 2 pounds in 10 days, which seems unlikely. The hospital isn't keen to admit this, however.

Beryl - I wouldn't say she has long hands, particularly, but she has quite large feet! I have a feeling she's going to tower over her 4'10" mother...

LR - We've just come back from Manchester visiting the new arrival. She is quite cute - as all tiny babies are. I wouldn't say she was pretty (very red and almost no hair, after all), but I find those tiny hands and feet just fascinating.

Rick - Bill turned to absolute mush around this kid - he's already wrapped around one of those tininesy fingers...
